Cobbles Collection
Bringing Halifax's Past Back to Life
Curated by Harry Facks
Welcome
The Cobbles Collection is an ongoing historical project dedicated to bringing the streets, people and stories of old Halifax back to life.
At its heart is Cobbles, a dramatised historical saga following ordinary Halifax families through the changing years of the nineteenth century.
Unlike traditional historical fiction, The Cobbles Collection combines carefully researched history with dramatic storytelling, allowing readers to experience Halifax as it once was.
Our Philosophy
Where historical evidence exists...
...we follow it.
Where the historical record falls silent...
...carefully researched fiction fills the gaps.
Real streets.
Real buildings.
Real occupations.
Real customs.
Real events.
Real Halifax.
Cobbles aims to become the definitive dramatised history of ordinary Halifax people, bringing together documented history and carefully researched fiction to recreate the lives of those whose stories were rarely recorded.
The Cobbles Story
The Cobbles Story follows fictional families living amongst the real streets, businesses and communities of Halifax.
As the story develops, readers will discover:
- Family life
- Work and industry
- Poverty and prosperity
- Crime and justice
- Love and loss
- Friendship and betrayal
- Real historical events
- The changing face of Halifax
Every chapter is built upon research before imagination.
Beyond the Story
The novel is only part of The Cobbles Collection.
Supporting pages will gradually expand the experience through:
- Historical research
- Character files
- Location guides
- Historic photographs
- Newspaper reports

- The real history behind each chapter
Together they create a living archive celebrating Halifax's remarkable past.
The Curator
Harry Facks has spent years researching Halifax's history through photographs, maps, newspapers, directories, official records and local archives.
The Cobbles Collection brings together that research in a new way—allowing readers not only to learn about Halifax's past, but to experience it through story.
A Living Project
The Cobbles Collection will continue to grow.
