Egbert — Halifax's First World War Tank at Rock Hollow Park, Ogden

Egbert - Hollow Rock Park, Ogden

In March 1918, Halifax took part in Tank Week, a campaign to raise money for the war effort through the purchase of War Bonds. One of the tanks associated with this fundraising drive was called Egbert, which had seen action at the Battle of Cambrai on the Western Front.

Halifax's contribution to the war effort was recognised with the presentation of Tank No. 208, which was later displayed at Rock Hollow Park, Ogden. This was a female tank, armed with machine guns rather than the six-pounder guns carried by male tanks.

The tank became a striking feature of Rock Hollow Park, linking this popular local beauty spot with the sacrifices and fundraising efforts of the First World War. Its presence remains a fascinating part of Ogden's history.
