The pub closed in 1892. It was demolished in 1898
John Murgatroyd, who was landlord in the 1870s had 9 daughters. When his brother-in-law(the previous landlord) died he also took care of his 3 sons. However, during an outbreak of fever in Halifax, Mr Murgatroyd lost his wife and two daughters in a week.
This was a timber-framed building – the Old Hall – which stood next to the Moot Hall and adjacent to Halifax Parish Church on the site now occupied by the Sunday school.
