The land for the George V park, Wakefield Road, Lightcliffe was offered to the Hipperholme U.D.C by Sir Algernon and Lady Firth of Firths arpets Ltd. This picture shows the land, prior to it being opened as a park, when it was called locally "the Delph". The reasons for this now seem vague but the early ordnance survey maps of the area show a sandstone quarry near to this site. Circa 1908.
